IMD Weather Update: Heavy rain is expected to lash parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on Saturday and Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted possibility of rain over Kerala and Mahe on the 19th of January. Rain was observed in parts of Delhi/NCR on Thursday morning amid cold wave.

The Nicobar island will likely receive heavy downpour today, January 16, 2025. A western disturbance is expected to bring isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad & Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh on January 16. The impact of rain is also likely to be witnessed in the Northernmost states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh today. Another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region starting 18th of January.

Dense Fog Warning

Dense Fog engulfed different regions across India, affecting visibility. Dense fog conditions is likely to impact Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh on the 16th of January. The other affected states include Himachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, expected to witness similar conditions till the 20th of January. Additionally, Rajasthan and seven sister states is expected to see dense fog till the 18th of January.

Cold day conditions are very likely to persist in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh on the 16th of January.

Ground Frost Warnings

Ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on January 16th and 17th.

AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi

Delhi woke up to ‘very poor’ air quality on Thursday morning with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 356 at 6 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Rain lashed parts of the national capital today morning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) observed a slight decline in minimum temperature up to 3°C in the city during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi were recorded in the range of 18 to 21°C and 6 to 7°C, respectively. Meanwhile, the Met Body forecasts a clear sky in the capital on January 17 and 18.
