IMD Weather Update: Northern India has been battling severe cold wave conditions since December potentially impacting the daily life. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold day warning in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh. A sharp decline in temperature is also expected over Himachal Pradesh on January 6 and 7 and across Bihar till Jan 5.
Heavy Rain In Jammu-Kashmir
According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance, seen as an induced cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan in lower tropospheric levels is likely to cause heavy rain in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh till Jan 6.
Additionally, heavy rainfall/ snowfall is expected to cause disruptions in daily life in northern states of Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh on Jan 5 and 6. Another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India causing rainfall from Jan 10 to12.
Dense Fog Alert
According to IMD’s latest update and data, very dense fog is likely to block visibility during late night and early morning hours in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Jan 6 and 7. Fog is likely to affect vehicular movement shrouding north Madhya Pradesh and Bihar till the 6th of January.
Fishermen Warnings
Fishermen are cautioned against going into Gulf of Mannar, Oman coast, Maldives, Comorin area, and southern parts of southeast Arabian sea for today. They are also advised to keep away from Somalia coast, western parts of West-central Arabian Sea, and Southwest Arabian Sea till Jan 6.
AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi
The national capital continues to remain in the ‘very poor’ category for the third consecutive day on Sunday. The overall AQI was recorded as 377 at 7 am amid low visibility due to fog, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
According to IMD, there has been a slight rise in minimum temperature up to 01°C and rise in maximum temperature up to 05°C over Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi were recorded in the range of 17 to 21°C and 7 to 9°C respectively.
