IMD Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema from December 18 to 20. Additionally, light to moderate rain is likely in Odisha on December 19 and 20.
Weather Systems
According to IMD’s latest information and data, a cyclonic circulation extending up to the middle tropospheric levels is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast in the next two days. The met body has also warned against a fresh western disturbance likely to affect the western Himalayan region from December 18 onwards.
Cold Wave, Dense Fog & Ground Frost Warning
Severe cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh from Dec 17 to 21 and across Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh on Dec 22. Additionally, the cold wave is also expected to severely impact Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and West Rajasthan till December 23. East Rajasthan may also face cold wave conditions until December 23.
IMD has predicted dense fog conditions during late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh until today. Assam, Meghalaya, and East Rajasthan may also experience dense fog from Dec 19 to 20.
Ground Frost conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab during the next three days.
Fishermen Warnings
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the Gulf of Mannar till December 19. Also, IMD stated they must avoid going to the Southwest, West-central Bay of Bengal, and Tamil Nadu coast on the 21st of Dec, and into the South Andhra Pradesh coast from 18th to 21st December.
IMD Weather Forecast For Delhi
Delhi experienced a dip in minimum temperature up to 5°C on Wednesday (December 18). The Air quality Index (AQI) stood at 442 under the ‘severe’ category at 7 am today.
AQI: According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the following AQIs were reported in different parts of Delhi as of 7 am today: Okhla Phase 2 (469), Alipur (471), Rohini (466), ITO (458), Ashok Vihar (460), Wajipur (468), Shadipur (421), Mundka (472), Jahangirpuri (468), Narela (461), DTU (432), R.K. Puram (464), Anand Vihar (481), Pusa (417), and Punjabi Bagh (459).
