IMD Weather Update: A drop in temperature has been noticed in many places, especially in South India, as rain brought significant relief from scorching heat. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to remain pleasant across various regions for the next few days. However, the India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Ghats of Interior Karnataka from April 3 to 5. Additionally, Kerala & Mahe will receive intense showers from 3rd to 6th April, while North Interior Karnataka will witness the same today, 3rd April.
Rain, Thunderstorms And Gusty Winds
Residents in Maharashtra, Gangetic West Bengal, Central India, Jharkhand, and Odisha are expected to experience light rainfall with thunderstorms from 3rd to 4th April. Gusty winds traveling at 40 to 50 kmph is also likely over South Peninsular India from the 3rd to 6th of April.
What Is Cyclonic Circulation And Trough?
IMD has warned against two upper cyclonic circulations brewing over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Southwest Madhya Pradesh, respectively. An alert has also been issued against an upper air trough lying in the easterlies and extending from Lakshadweep to Konkan.
Cyclonic circulation is a counter-clockwise flow of wind, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, usually formed around a low-pressure area. Meanwhile, a trough refers to an elongated area of low pressure. It is where winds converge, bringing lift and precipitation.
Precautionary Measures
➢ Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible.
➢ Take safe shelters and avoid taking refuge under trees.
➢ Do not lie down on concrete floors or lean against concrete walls.
➢ Unplug electrical/ electronic appliances, if not in use
➢ Avoid going near water bodies.
Heat Wave Warning
Heat Wave conditions are very likely to continue to prevail in isolated pockets of Saurashtra &
Kutch during the next 7 days. West Rajasthan will face the wrath of heat from 5th to 8th, while Gujarat from 6th to 8th, and East Rajasthan on 7th and 8th April.
