IMD Weather Update: Heatwave To Scorch Rajasthan And Gujarat; Southern States Brace For Hot, Humid Conditions

According to the IMD bulletin, West Rajasthan is likely to experience a heatwave from April 15 to 18.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, temperatures have significantly shifted across various regions of India. As the mercury climbs across several regions, a mixed pattern of temperature changes is being observed across the country.

Heat Wave Conditions In Several States

According to the IMD bulletin, West Rajasthan is likely to experience a heatwave from April 15 to 18. Apart from this East Rajasthan is also expected to face heatwave conditions at some places during the same period. Similarly, the Gujarat region is likely to face heatwave conditions between April 15 and 17. In addition to scorching days, warm night conditions are likely at a few places in West Rajasthan and at isolated places in East Rajasthan from April 15 to 17, while West Madhya Pradesh may experience warm nights on April 16 and 17.

On the other end, hot and humid weather is likely to impact several regions. Konkan and Goa will experience these conditions on April 15, followed by Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and Coastal Karnataka on April 15 and 16.

Gujarat will witness humid conditions from April 15 to 17, while Maharashtra will face the same conditions from April 17 to 19.

According to bulletin, “Minimum Temperature Departures (as of 15-04-2025): Minimum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh; at isolated places over Punjab, Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Gujarat state, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, East Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttarakhand. These are appreciably below normal (-5.0°C to -3.1°C) at many places over Gangetic West Bengal; below normal (-3.0°C to -1.6°C) at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and normal over rest parts of the country (Fig. 4). Today, the lowest minimum temperature of 17.0°C is reported at Ludhiana (Punjab) over the plains of the country.”

According to IMD, “Maximum Temperature Departures (as on 15-04-2025): Maximum Temperatures are markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places Punjab, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Punjab, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa; at a few places over West Rajasthan and Gujarat state; at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam. These are markedly below normal (-5.1°C or less) at isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; below normal (-3.0°C to -1.6°C) at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and normal over rest parts of the country (Fig. 2). Today, the highest maximum temperature of 45.5°C is reported at Barmer (West Rajasthan) over the country.”
