IMD Weather Update: North India woke up to dense fog on Sunday (December 21, 2025) as cold weather tightened its grip across several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab. Reduced visibility caused severe disruptions, affecting road and air travel in many areas. IndiGo warned that early-morning fog is likely to disrupt flights in Delhi and parts of North India.
Dense Fog Warning
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dense to very dense fog conditions during night and morning hours in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana on December 21. Similar weather conditions are also likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana from the 25th to the 27th. Meanwhile, West Uttar Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh will experience dense fog on the 22nd, 26th, and 27th; Jharkhand on the 21st, 22nd; Madhya Pradesh until the morning hours of 21st December.

Cold wave warning
Cold wave conditions are expected to intensify over several regions. Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, and North & South Interior Karnataka are expected to reel under chilly weather conditions on December 21 and 22. Meanwhile, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand will experience biting cold temperatures today.
Delhi-NCR weather update
Delhi continues to choke as air quality slipped into the 'very poor' category on Sunday, with a thick haze covering the city. The AQI stood at 393 at 6 am today, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The conditions are expected to further worsen, and no respite in air quality is expected until Dec 23.
