IMD Weather Update: A fresh spell of rain brought significant respite to the residents from the ongoing scorching heat. Just hours after dust storms swept Delhi and its surrounding areas, IMD sounded an alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) over the plains of West, Central, and adjoining East India till 14th April. On the other hand, a heat wave warning was issued for Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat on 15th, 16th, and 17th April.
Heavy Rain To Lash Several Regions
According to the India Meteorological Department, several regions are likely to experience heavy rainfall in the upcoming few days. The affected places include Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh on the 12th, and over Assam & Meghalaya during 12th-15th April. A warning has also been issued against Isolated Hailstorms in Uttarakhand, East Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh on 12th April.

Forecast For Thunderstorms, Lightning, Gusty Winds
The list, however, doesn’t end here. Several areas are expected to experience similar weather conditions during the next week. The Met Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 km/h) likely over northeast and adjoining east India till next Friday. While Kerala & Mahe will witness light showers during the next 7 days, and Lakshadweep during the next 2 days, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Telangana, and Karnataka will receive it during the next 4 days.
Dust Storm And Thunder Squalls Alert
After a dust storm hit Delhi/NCR for the second day in a row, three people sustained injuries, while 15 flights were diverted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. A similar dust storm alert was sounded at isolated places over Rajasthan on 12th April. Additionally, thunder squalls (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) are very likely today at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan.
