IMD Weather LIVE Updates: While several states are experiencing a fresh spell of rain, some are hit by heavy, incessant rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Pre-monsoon activity has been witnessed in multiple regions, bringing much-needed respite from heatwave conditions. However, Torrential rain has brought life to a standstill in a few cities, including Bengaluru, which has been reeling under extremely heavy rain over the past few days.
The situation has turned dire in different parts of the city as the drainage system is struggling to cope with the heavy volume of rainwater. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Bengaluru and 22 other districts in Karnataka, until May 22. Meanwhile, the Weather Body predicted favourable conditions for Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next 4-5 days. Additionally, persistent rain and thunderstorms have been forecast over South Peninsular India, West India, North-east India, Northwest India, East and Central India, in the next few days.
Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over Himachal Pradesh on 23rd & 24th; Uttarakhand during 21st -26th; Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during 21th -26th May; Kerala & Mahe, Karnataka during the next 7 days; Coastal Karnataka during 22nd, 25th & 26th; North Interior Karnataka on 21st; South Interior Karnataka on 25th & 26th May
