IMD Weather LIVE Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued widespread weather warnings for multiple regions across the country, forecasting significant rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on Tuesday, May 27. The southwest monsoon on Monday advanced into several parts of India, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and parts of the Northeast, as per the IMD. Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall on May 26.
The IMD added that conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance further into some more parts of Maharashtra, some more parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of West Central, some more parts of North Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Northeastern states, and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next three days.
Kerala and Mahe are expected to experience widespread moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph on May 27. Very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places, continuing with heavy to very heavy rain from May 28 to June 1. Coastal and South Interior Karnataka will witness similar heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extreme showers on May 27, continuing through June 1.
Meanwhile, heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of West Rajasthan during May 27-28.

The forecast for May 27 also indicates a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain, with temperatures expected to remain steady at 23.0°C (minimum) and 31.0°C (maximum).From May 28 to May 30, Mumbai is likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain, with temperatures ranging between 24.0°C and 32.0°C. The forecast for May 31 and June 1 suggests partly cloudy skies with the possibility of rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by a rise in the maximum temperature to 33.0°C.On Monday, Mumbai witnessed heavy rain, marking the onset of the monsoon. Visuals from Marine Drive showed cloudy skies and wet roads as residents welcomed the change in weather. Scenes from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) also captured the rainy atmosphere.
The Kashmir Valley is grappling with an intense and unseasonal heatwave, with temperatures soaring well above normal, causing concern among residents and officials.
Farookh Ahmed Bhat, Scientific Officer at the MET Department in Srinagar, said, "Kashmir has been experiencing a heatwave for several days, but recent rains in many areas have slightly reduced the intensity. Temperatures remain one to two degrees above normal. However, the weather is expected to change soon, with chances of cooler temperatures and light rain, especially in hilly regions, after the 28th. If temperatures drop by around three degrees, the heatwave conditions are likely to ease within a week. We anticipate continued fluctuations in weather until then, with alternating periods of warmth and rainfall."
