IMD Weather Update: The monsoon continues to wreak havoc across the country, bringing unexpected showers to multiple regions in mid-October. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the southwest monsoon to further withdraw from the remaining parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, entire Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. The retreat is expected to progress, and winter may soon grip West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, and Telangana during the next 3-4 days.
Heavy rain to lash South India till Oct 13
Amidst this, the Weather Body has warned that enhanced rainfall activity is likely to continue over South
Peninsular India. Torrential showers are set to lash Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, and Mahe until October 13, 2025. Additionally, strong surface winds are expected to hit Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam today. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over South Peninsular India during the next 4 to 5 days.
Rain to intensify over East, Central, North India
Rain activity is likely to intensify over some parts of north, east, and central India during the next few days. According to IMD, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal will likely witness heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on October 11 and 12. There is also a possibility of light to moderate rain over Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh.
Cold snap grips Delhi-NCR as monsoon retreats
As the monsoon is in its final phase, temperatures may soon drop in several cities. Cold weather has already begun gripping Delhi-NCR and parts of Uttar Pradesh. The chill in the air has forced the ACs to be turned off and the fans to slow down.
