Heavy Rainfall and Floods Disrupt Several States: IMD Alerts Issued, Delhi’s Air Quality Deteriorates

Weather Update: The continuous heavy rains are creating havoc in large parts of India. Several states witnessed flooding and this has led to serious inconvenience for people in a number of states. Though Gujarat slowly started recovering from the recent floods, farmers continued to face severe losses from the prevailing weather conditions. Morning overcast skies greeted western Uttar Pradesh. Light rain sprayed parts of Haryana and Punjab.

IMD’s Forecast

The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings regarding adverse weather conditions in several states. Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been kept under a red alert owing to the anticipated heavy rainfall. On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and West Bengal have been issued with an orange alert.

Heavy Rains Expected In Various States

IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana from till September 10, 2024. Madhya Pradesh along with Maharashtra will receive heavy rainfall on September 9. Vidarbha will face heavy rains and thundershowers on September 12.

Heavy rains and thundershowers would continue over Rajasthan during the next 24 hours. The well-marked low over southwest Rajasthan is likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken into a Low-Pressure Area during the next few days. Heavy Rainfall is likely over Ajmer, Udaipur, and Jaipur. The monsoon is very likely to become active over East Rajasthan during the next couple of days.

Heavy rain is probable over Coastal West Bengal, North Odisha, and Jharkhand. UP, along with Lucknow, will receive rainfall from Tuesday onwards.

Delhi Weather Update

Regional Meteorological Center in Delhi has predicted that light rain and thundershowers will continue at the national capital on Wednesday, with the overall sky remaining cloudy. It is most likely to continue till September 14, giving further relief to the city.

September 10 Weather Outlook

Scattered heavy to very heavy falls are likely over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha on September 10. Heavy showers are forecasted over Telangana, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Gujarat Region, Konkan and Goa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.

Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim and scattered to fairly widespread over Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan.
 
All-India Weather Forecast


The deep depression over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal is moving slowly to north and northwest. It is headed west-northwest during the next 72 hours across Odisha and Chhattisgarh. As a result, this would push the area of heavy rain inland due to the convergence of northwesterly winds.

The heavy rains are likely to continue over Madhya Pradesh till Wednesday and over Uttar Pradesh till Thursday. At mean sea level, the monsoon trough is lying south of its normal position and is likely to remain so during the next 3-4 days. A cyclonic circulation lies over central Rajasthan and extends up to middle tropospheric levels.

Heavy rains and flooding have brought extreme consequences to several states. The forecast from the IMD indicates continued heavy rainfall and disruptions during the next couple of days. Local people in these affected states need to monitor weather updates for necessary precautions to be taken to safeguard them against such natural calamities. AQI Of Delhi The air quality of New Delhi is showing alarming trends with respect to pollutants in the atmosphere. Currently, the value of PM 2.5 is 46, which is 3.1 times higher than the recommended limit set by WHO’s 24-hour air quality guidelines. Apart from this, the PM10 is recorded at 100, while other pollutants like sulphur dioxide stood at 3, carbon monoxide at 557, ozone at 19, and nitrogen dioxide at 27. From these figures, the level of pollution is rather high, especially for particulate matter.
