IMD Weather Alert: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh today. It has also forecasted light/moderate rainfall and snowfall over Uttarakhand on 9th and 10th December.
IMD in its press release said that under the influence of a Western Disturbance, light/moderate rainfall/snowfall has been predicted over Western Himalayan Region and light isolated rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh 9th December, 2024.
It further said that a low Pressure area lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean. This phenomenon will result in heavy rainfall over South Peninsular India during 10th – 13th December.
Rainfall Forecast
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at a few places with heavy rainfall at isolated places during 10th -13th December.
Isolated very heavy rainfall is also very likely over the region during 11th and 12th December.
Light to moderate rainfall has been predicted over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema on 11th and 12thDecember.
IMD has predicted light to moderate and heavy rainfall at isolated places of Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka on 12th and 13th December.
Coastal Karnataka is also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on 13th December.

Fisherman Warning
IMD has issued warning and advised the fishermen not to venture into Southeast Bay of Bengal during 8th– 11th; Southwest Bay of Bengal during 8th– 12th December; along and off Somalia coast on 8th, Northwest Arabian Sea on 9th December.
Temperature, Cold Wave And Fog Forecast
IMD observed that minimum temperatures are in the range of 5-10℃ in the Northwest India, 10-15℃ in the Indo Gangetic plains and eastern parts of India and 15-20℃ over Central India, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Forecast Of Temperature
IMD said that no significant change in minimum temperatures will take place in Northwest India (except Rajasthan) during next 2 days, but a gradual fall by 2-3℃ will occur thereafter.
It added that no significant change in minimum temperatures will be observed over Central India during next 24 hours. However, a gradual fall by 2-3℃ will be observed thereafter.
Gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3℃ likely over East India during next 2 days and then gradual fall by 2-4℃ during subsequent 3-4 days.
Gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4℃ likely over West India during next 3 days and no significant change thereafter.
IMD Weather Alert: Cold Wave Warnings
Cold has been increasing from the mountains to the plains and in view of that, IMD has forecasted cold wave conditions likely in isolated pockets over West Rajasthan during 9th-14th, East Rajasthan during 10th -14th, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh during 11th -14th December.
Dense Fog Warnings
Along with fall in minimum temperature, dense fog conditions will prevail during late night/early morning hours in parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh till 10th, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till 11th, Bihar during 9th-11th, Himachal Pradesh during 10th-12th, Uttar Pradesh during 10th -13th December.

Weather Forecast For Delhi –NCR
Delhi will have mainly clear sky with smog/ shallow fog likely in evening and night. There has been a slight rise in minimum and maximum temperature over Delhi-NCR during past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperature over Delhi are currently in the range of 22-25℃ and 6-10℃ respectively.
