IMD Weather Alert: Severe Cold Wave To Intensify In North India, Western Disturbance To Bring Rainfall In Uttarakhand

Dense Fog conditions are also expected to impact vehicular movement in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from Dec 30, 2024 to Jan 1, 2025.

IMD Weather Update: Severe cold wave conditions have continued to cause disruptions in residents’ daily lives across North India for the past few weeks. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a sharp dip in temperatures in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from the 31st of December, 2024 to the 2nd of January, 2025. Additionally, similar conditions will also hit Rajasthan till January 2.

Rain/Snowfall Alert

According to IMD, a fresh western Disturbance in quick succession is likely to affect Northwest India from January 6, 2025. The Western Himalayan region is also expected to receive light isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall from January 1 to 4, 2025 due to another western disturbance

IMD Issues Fog Alert

According to IMD’s latest update and data, dense fog conditions are expected to halt daily activities during late night and early morning hours in Himachal Pradesh till January 1, 2025.

Dense Fog conditions are also expected to impact vehicular movement in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from December 30 to January 1.

Temperature Forecast

A decline in minimum temperatures by 4-6℃ is likely over Uttar Pradesh during the next 5 days and by 3-4℃ over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan during the next 3 days. Additionally, a fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4℃ is also likely to persist over Maharashtra during the next 5 days.

AQI, Forecast For Delhi

Delhi experienced a slight rise in minimum temperature over Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are in the range of 15 to 16°C and 11 to 13°C respectively. Delhi woke up to ‘moderate’ air quality on Monday, December 30, 2024, as the AQI was recorded as 182 at 7 am.
