IMD Warns Of Severe Rain In Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh On High Alert For 5 Days

The Meteorological Department forecasts isolated extremely heavy rain in Uttarakhand today (7 July) and expects heavy rainfall in the state until 11 July.

The India Meteorological Department issued a 'red' alert for very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand on Sunday due to expected severe precipitation. They also issued an 'orange' alert for very heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh, parts of the northeastern states, and the west coast.

IMD Forecast for Central-Northwest India

The Meteorological Department predicts isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand today (7 July) and heavy rainfall in the state until 11 July. Uttar Pradesh is expected to experience isolated very heavy rainfall until 11 July. The IMD also predicts isolated heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan until 11 July, and in Punjab tomorrow.

IMD Forecast for West and South Peninsular India

A red alert has been issued for extremely heavy rainfall in the Konkan and Goa today. An orange alert has been issued for very heavy rainfall in parts of Karnataka until 11 July. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely in the Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Coastal Karnataka over the next 5 days. The weather agency also predicts scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall in Marathwada, Gujarat, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Interior Karnataka over the next 5 days. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema are also likely to see light to moderate rainfall during this period.

IMD's Impact Warning on Rain

The weather agency has warned of localized flooding of roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and closure of underpasses, especially in urban areas. They have also flagged possible visibility reduction due to heavy rainfall and traffic disruptions in major cities due to waterlogged roads, which could increase travel time. In hilly regions, IMD has warned of localized landslides. There is also a risk of riverine flooding in some river catchments due to heavy rainfall.
