IMD Weather Update: North India is currently reeling under severe cold wave conditions which have caused significant disruptions in daily life. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecast a sharp dip in temperature in some parts of Himachal Pradesh on December 30 and 31. Cold wave conditions will also likely hit parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh from the 29th of December to the 3rd of January. Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad will experience similar conditions on Dec 30 and 31.
Rain/Snowfall/Thunderstorms Alert
According to IMD, two fresh Western Disturbances in quick succession are likely to bring rainfall/snowfall over the western Himalayan region from January 1 to 6.
Ground Frost Conditions
Ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during 29th and 31st December.
IMD Issues Fog Alert
According to IMD’s latest update and data, dense fog conditions are expected to halt daily life during late night and early morning hours in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan from Dec 28 to 30.
Dense Fog conditions are also expected to impact vehicular movement in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh till the 31st of December.
Additionally, dense fog is likely to reduce visibility in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from December 30 to January 2.
AQI, Forecast For Delhi
There has been a significant rise in minimum temperature up to 02°C over Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperature over Delhi was recorded in the range of 14 to 15°C and 12 to 14°C respectively. Delhi woke up to ‘very poor’ air quality on Sunday, December 29, 2024, as the AQI was recorded as 223 at 7 am.
