Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday shared a video showing TMC leader Kirti Azad ‘vaping’ during the proceedings in the Lok Sabha. The purported clip was posted on X by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, who claimed, “TMC MP accused by BJP MP Anurag Thakur of vaping inside Parliament is none other than Kirti Azad.”
Malviya calls on West Bengal CM to issue a clarification
Amit Malviya termed Azad’s purported act ‘unacceptable’ and called on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to issue a clarification on his ‘misconduct.’ “For people like him, rules and laws clearly hold no meaning. Just imagine the audacity, hiding an e-cigarette in his palm while in the House! Smoking may not be illegal, but using it in Parliament is entirely unacceptable. Mamata Banerjee must clarify on her MP’s misconduct,” Malviya wrote on X, while sharing the video.

BJP MP Anurag Thakur submits written complaint
The clip surfaced days after Anurag Thakur wrote a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla alleging that a Trinamool Congress leader was smoking an e-cigarette in the house. In his complaint, Thakur named the opposition party but not the ‘vaping’ leader. He sought action while raising the issue in the lower house without naming Azad at the time.
In the letter, Thakur wrote, “A Member of Parliament belonging to the All India Trinamool Congress was seen openly using an electronic cigarette while seated in the House during the sittings,” adding that the act was “clearly visible” to other MPs present in the Lok Sabha.
According to Lok Sabha Secretariat sources, the matter is under scrutiny, and appropriate action will be taken in compliance with the established norms after examining the recordings. Meanwhile, Anurag Thakur said that the alleged act sends a “dangerous message to the youth of the country.”
