‘I May Not Tie Rakhi’: Andhra Newlywed Dies By Suicide After Alleged Abuse by Husband

A newlywed woman from Andhra Pradesh tragically died by suicide, leaving behind a heartbreaking letter that mentioned her pain and her hope to tie a rakhi for her brother one last time.

A 24-year-old newlywed woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself at her home in Andhra Pradesh, Krishna district, police said. A suicide note was also recovered from the possession of the deceased, in which she mentioned the harassment she was facing after marrying and apologised to her brother for not tying rakhi.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Srividea, a college lecturer who was married to a man identified as Rambabu. In the suicide note, the deceased mentioned that after a month of marriage, she started facing physical and verbal harassment. She further mentioned that Rambabu used to call her useless in front of another woman and physically abuse her by slamming her head against the bed and punching her in the back.

“Be careful, little brother. This time, I may not be able to tie Rakhi on you,” she added in the note as quoted by NDTV. Police registered a case and started recording statements of grieved family members.
