Incidents of sexual harassment have become increasingly disturbing and common. Acts of public indecency, largely targeting women, often leave them traumatized and harm their mental health. From crowded buses to metro stations, disturbing stories of inappropriate behavior emerge daily. In yet another shocking occurrence that recently came to light in Gurugram, a model and digital creator alleged that she was sexually harassed while waiting for a ride.
The incident occurred in broad daylight last Friday when Soni Singh was waiting for her cab after arriving from Jaipur. She alleged that she did not receive any response from the police or the women’s helpline after contacting them. Meanwhile, she recorded the incident on her phone and later shared her ordeal online.
On August 2, Soni was dropped off at Rajiv Chowk and was waiting for her cab near an underpass. She tried contacting the driver several times, but he didn’t answer. Shortly after, she noticed a man walking towards her. “He was circling and constantly staring at me. I ignored him initially, but then noticed his pants were unzipped. He kept staring and, within moments, started masturbating in front of me,” she said in a video posted online. “I felt very disgusting,” she added. Singh then immediately booked another ride and reached home.
The incident drew significant attention after she posted the video on social media and tagged the Gurugram Police and the Haryana government. Police took prompt action and registered a case under Sections 75(2) and 78 of the BNS. Attempts are underway to track the offender with the help of the CCTV footage.
