A 35-year-old software engineer has died by suicide in Hyderabad, just six months after her wedding. Devika died by suicide at her Hyderabad home on Sunday night. Her husband Satish, also a techie, informed the police and Devika’s family that she had hanged herself.
The couple married each other six months back at a grand ceremony in Goa. Following Devika’s death, her family has alleged that Satish had been harassing her over dowry and that had pushed her to the edge.
According to reports, Devika and Satish were colleagues who started a relationship after they met at work. They eventually decided to marry and the two families agreed. The wedding took place in August-end last year.
Local media has reported that the couple had a fight on Sunday night after which Devika locked herself in a room. She did not respond to Satish’s knocks and he assumed she was sleeping. When she did not come out of the room the next morning, he broke open the door to find her hanging. He then informed the police and her family.
In a complaint at Raidurgam police station, Devika’s mother Ramalakshami has alleged that Satish harassed her over dowry and this may have forced her to die by suicide. Police have said a probe is on.
