Rabies transmission has become a disturbing new concern in Greater Noida, challenging widespread beliefs about the dangerous virus. The death of a woman in a rural area demonstrates that rabies can be transmitted through drinking milk from animals carrying the virus instead of traditional dog bite transmission routes, as reported by News 18.
The woman from the animal-husbandry family, accidentally consumed milk harvested from a rabid cow who had a wound from a stray dog. Initially unaware of the infection the family gave a single vaccination to the sick cow before the woman chose not to visit a doctor. The lack of timely vaccination ended up resulting in her death.
Multiple sources confirmed that the cow delivered a calf about two months ago, and several villagers, including the woman’s family, drank its milk. The outbreak was detected which led to medical professionals providing at least ten local inhabitants with post-exposure rabies vaccinations. Health authorities remained unaware of why the woman failed to receive the necessary preventive medicine injection.
In the following days, she developed severe symptoms, including an intense fear of water, panic attacks, and light sensitivity. When her illness became worse her relatives attempted to access medical treatment but repeated institutions refused to admit her. Medical professionals from the district hospital gave the family permission to leave with the woman according to their doctors’ instructions and she died shortly after returning home.
The whole village became alarmed by the incident because residents from the village had drank the infected milk. All persons exposed to the contaminated substance need to get immediate medical care according to health authorities. Rabies functions as a fatal viral disease of the nervous system which moves between subjects through both bite injuries and open skin areas or mucous membranes when an infected animal releases saliva.
