Delhi is set to witness assembly elections by February 2025 whereas its former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had asked for an early election along with Maharashtra where a new house has to be elected in November 2024. Kejriwal, in a bid to give an Agnipariksha, has stepped down from his position and has proposed Atishi Singh to head the lawmakers of Delhi.
The political history of India shows how risk-taking has been the decision of handing over power to someone for a limited period, be it the old case of Nitish Kumar and Jitan Ram Manjhi or the recent case of Hemant Soren and Champai Soren. The intensity of this risk can only be mapped with time but there are certain benefits of roping in Atishi ahead of the assembly elections.
New homework for the BJP
Atishi Singh has proclaimed that Arvind Kejriwal is the only CM of Delhi. This surely calls for a warm-up for the BJP as the party will have to do its homework for the capital from scratch. With just a couple of months in hand before assembly elections, the saffron brigade will have to pull up its socks on how to target AAP now with its new face.
Atishi Singh to get emotional support?
A woman figure is anytime difficult to face if compared to a male figure. For a woman always draws emotional appeal, and history is the testimony to the fact that garnering votes has been easier for women than men. Examples are former PM Indira Gandhi, and Jaya Bachchan seeking votes for her husband Amitabh Bachchan.
Ethics to etiquette: New learnings needed
Also, hitting out at a female politician needs due consideration. For a party like the BJP whose leaders have grabbed eyeballs for provocative statements, dealing with a female is going to be tougher. All the leaders in opposition, including the BJP and INC need to work on how to play the blame game without outraging someone’s modesty especially when your rival is a woman.

After holding a dozen press conferences and giving statements on behalf of AAP in cases like the liquor policy, money laundering, or the Swati Maliwal case, Atishi Singh has now become the face of the party and learned how to deal with situations. While she will reap the benefits of her candidature as a woman, her experience as a competent leader will definitely work for the party.
