A tragic accident took place on the Ambernath Flyover in Thane district, Maharashtra, on Friday evening, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured. Police said the car’s driver suffered a heart attack while driving, causing the vehicle to go out of control and crash into several two-wheelers on the flyover. The incident happened around 7:15 pm on the flyover that links the eastern part of Ambernath to the western side. The impact was so strong that one two-wheeler rider was flung off the flyover and fell onto the road below.
CCTV footage shows the car speeding and swerving before hitting multiple two-wheelers on the busy stretch. Police teams rushed to the spot, and more details are awaited.
Shiv Sena candidate was inside the vehicle during incident
According to India Today report, Shiv Sena’s local election candidate Kiran Chaubey was travelling in the car along with her aides and driver, Lakshman Shinde, as part of her campaign. Shinde reportedly had a heart attack while driving, lost control, and the car ended up crashing into four to five vehicles after crossing the central divider.
Locals pulled Kiran Chaubey out of the damaged vehicle and took her to a nearby hospital. She and her two aides are said to be stable and under medical observation. Sadly, Shinde and two young local residents, Sumit Chelani and Shailesh Jadhav, died on the spot.
According to Shailesh Kale, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Ambarnath, “Four persons, including the driver of the car, were killed in the accident.” Due to the impact, the two-wheelers were completely crushed, he said, adding that efforts were on to establish the identity of the dead persons.” Police said the bodies have been taken to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.
