New Delhi: The Indian Air Force has decided to hand over the command of a frontline combat unit in the western sector to Group Captain Shaliza Dhami. she will be the first woman to command a combat unit of the IAF. Dhami joined the Indian Air Force in 2003.
According to officials, Dhami is a qualified flying instructor and has a flying experience of over 2,800 hours. She is also the first woman to receive Permanent Commission in the Flying Branch.
Earlier in September 2019, Wing Commander Dhami had the distinction of becoming the first woman flight commander of a flying unit of the Air Force. She is currently posted in the operations branch of a frontline command headquarters.
