Landslide Hits Mandi’s Sundernagar, Three Dead, Two Missing; Rescue Operations On

The landslide hit two residential houses and the debris that fell trapped a few people while others managed to escape narrowly.

A major landslide struck the Jangambag area under the Sundernagar subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district in the evening hours today, triggering panic and chaos among local residents. When the land suddenly gave way, it hit two residential houses, trapping a few people under the debris, while others managed to escape the occurrence narrowly.

The sudden landslide led to chaos as residents fled their homes to save their lives. According to locals, they heard rumbling sounds before the slope on which their houses were situated gave way.

Confirming the incident, Additional District Magistrate Dr. Madan Kumar stated that three individuals have so far been rescued from the rubble. Teams of the State Disaster Management Authority, District Disaster Management Authority, and local police have been deployed. The rescue operations are being carried out under challenging conditions as the unstable terrain continues to give way.

Mandi DC Apoorv Devgan stated that a landslide struck Sundernagar late in the evening, destroying two houses. In the first house, four people were inside—two of them, a woman and a child, were rescued but sadly did not survive after being taken to the hospital. In the second house, one body has been recovered, while two others from the first house remain missing. Search operations are underway, and all teams are on the ground. Additionally, another person caught in the landslide while in his car is also being searched for.

The operation to recover two missing people from the first house is still underway. Another person who was in his car at the time of the landslide also came in contact with the debris swept by the landslide. Rescue efforts are underway to find him as well.
