Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Thursday disqualified six MLAs under the anti-defection law. This development comes after these MLAs cross-voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent Rajya Sabha election.

Despite the political turmoil caused by the cross-voting and a minister’s rebellion during the Rajya Sabha election, the Congress government, led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, successfully navigated the crisis. The government passed the budget on Wednesday, and Minister Vikramaditya Singh expressed willingness to delay resignation demands until discussions with party leaders conclude, providing a temporary relief to the Congress.
