Himachal Pradesh Landslide: 10 Killed After Bus Buried Under Debris In Bilaspur, Several Feared Trapped

Himachal Pradesh Landslide: At least 15 people were killed in a massive landslide that occurred on Tuesday in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district. According to reports, a private bus was buried under heavy debris, leaving several passengers trapped. The tragic incident took place near Ballu Bridge when a massive amount of mud and rocks cascaded down the hillside and crashed onto the vehicle.

According to officials, eighteen people were rescued and three were sent to the hospital. Around 20 to 30 passengers were traveling inside the private bus, reports added. A video from the site showed several locals attempting to rescue those trapped and a JCB machine clearing the debris.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukku expressed grief over the loss of lives in the mishap. In a social media post, he wrote, “The news of the devastating landslide near Balughat (Bhalla Bridge) in the Jhanduta Assembly constituency of Bilaspur district has shaken me to the core. In this massive landslide, tragic news has come of 10 people losing their lives after a private bus was caught in it, and there is apprehension that several others may be trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are ongoing at a war footing.”

CM Sukku has directed the authorities to deploy their full machinery to rescue those still trapped under the debris. “I am in touch with the local administration and am continuously receiving moment-by-moment updates on the entire rescue operation. May God grant peace to the departed souls and provide strength to the grieving families. In this difficult time, I stand with all the affected families,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased. “Saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. An ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” PMO tweeted.
