Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have made a breakthrough in a recent shooting incident at a swimming pool in the Samba district by apprehending the primary suspect from Himachal Pradesh. The arrest of Balvinder Singh, also known as “Goru,” a resident of the Vijaypur neighborhood in Samba, has provided a significant lead in the case.
Samba Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Benam Tosh confirmed that the accused was captured during operations conducted in Dharamshala and McleodGanj in Himachal Pradesh.
The incident occured on July 3
According to SSP Tosh, the incident took place on July 3 when a group of ten masked criminals arrived at the Birpur swimming pool. Armed with sharp-edged weapons, they targeted two staff members, Tahir Latif and Muzaffar Siraj from Kishtwar, causing serious injuries. Promptly initiating an investigation, the police registered a case related to the incident. The criminals then brandished a revolver and fired shots before fleeing the scene.
Investigations revealed that the notorious drug trafficking gang known as the “Lambu-Gujjar-Gang,” also referred to as the “Yuqa-Gujjar-Gang,” was responsible for the brutal attack on the defenseless swimming pool attendants in Birpur.
Gang members involved in prior altercation with pool staff
It was discovered that some members of the gang had a prior altercation with the pool staff a few days before the incident. They had demanded permission to swim without removing their clothes, which was denied by the attendants.
SSP Tosh confirmed that raids are currently underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the case. The police are determined to bring all the culprits to justice and ensure the safety and security of the local community.
The successful arrest of the primary suspect marks a significant milestone in the investigation, providing hope for a swift resolution and delivering justice to the victims of this heinous crime. The Jammu and Kashmir Police continue to work diligently to maintain law and order in the region, ensuring the safety of its residents.
