Parents give life to their children and will do anything to protect them. Today, we share the inspiring story of a daughter from Indore who, after obtaining permission from the government and the High Court, is donating her liver to save her father’s life. This courageous act is generating nationwide discussion.
The case is from the city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh. After considering the petition, the Madhya Pradesh High Court granted permission today for the donation. Before this, the government had also granted permission for the donation. The petition was filed in the High Court on June 13, and the decision was announced today. Permission had to be sought from both the government and the High Court because the doctor had initially refused to perform the surgery.

The doctor cited the girl’s age as the reason for refusal. She is a minor, with just two months remaining until she turns 18. According to the law, individuals under 18 years old cannot donate organs. Therefore, the girl had to seek permission. She first filed a petition in the High Court for this purpose. Meanwhile, she also applied to the government for permission to donate.
According to media reports, Shivnarayan Batham, a 42-year-old resident of Indore, is suffering from liver failure, posing a threat to his life. Doctors have suggested a liver transplant, but no suitable donor has come forward. Seeing her father’s life in danger, his 17-year-old minor daughter, Preeti, expressed her desire to donate her liver to him.
Upon informing her father’s doctor about her intention, they declined to proceed with the transplant citing her age. Preeti filed a petition in the High Court through lawyer Nilesh Mahore. The bench led by Justice Vishal Mishra heard the petition and granted permission for the liver transplant. However, before delivering the final verdict, the judge sought expert opinions on the matter.
Medical Report
According to advocate Nilesh, MY Hospital’s medical board, the Dean of MGM Medical College, and the Police Commissioner of Bhopal reviewed and presented their report in court regarding the case. Based on this report, Preeti was found completely suitable for donation, and the High Court granted permission accordingly. Meanwhile, Dr. Amit Barfa, Shivnarayan’s doctor, informed the court that preparations for the liver transplant have been made. The surgery is expected to take 10 to 12 hours. Given the urgency to avoid complications for Shivnarayan due to any delay, the surgery will proceed immediately upon receiving a copy of the High Court’s order.
