Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert across several states, stating that there may be heavy rainfall on August 20. These states include West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Kerala, which are likely to experience heavy showers.
Heavy Rainfall Expected in East and South India
It has been stated by the IMD on its social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that a low-pressure area lying over southern Bangladesh is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in East and East-central India during the next three days. The weather agency has further stressed that during the next two to three days, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep may get isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Delhi Weather Update
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Delhi has pegged the maximum temperature at around 36 degrees Celsius with a minimum of about 27 degrees Celsius today for those drenched in the national capital. The forecast also includes light rain and a generally cloudy sky, with similar wet conditions expected to persist over the next five days.
On August 18th, the forecast predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall for Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and South Peninsular India. The statement also mentioned that northwestern states, such as Uttar Pradesh, will likely experience heavy rainfall over the next 5-7 days. Meanwhile, Delhi NCR will see only light rainfall.
Rain Updates in Southern India
The IMD, in its latest release, had said isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep till August 21. Andhra Pradesh could get heavy rain on August 20 while Karnataka is likely to receive heavy showers on August 20, 24 and 25. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also predicted over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep on August 20.
Rain Forecast for Other Regions
According to the IMD’s August 19 weather bulletin, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely over Central India, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected in Marathwada and Gujarat throughout the week.
The IMD also forecast isolated heavy rainfall over parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and Jharkhand until August 23. However, showers are expected over Odisha on August 20 and 23, and over Arunachal Pradesh on August 20, 22, and 23. Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive rain up to August 24.
