The president of the Parshuram Kalyan Board, Pandit Vishnu Rajoria, announced that his board would provide assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Brahmin couples for having four children. Rajoria’s announcement sparked controversy, as India’s population was reported to have reached 142.86 crore in 2023, surpassing China’s.
“Heretics are increasing because we have stopped focusing on our families. I have high hopes for the younger generation. We can’t expect much from the older generation. Listen carefully, it is your responsibility to protect the future. Many young people settle down and stop after having one child, which is a major concern. I urge you to have at least four,” he said at an event in Indore.
Rajoria announced that the board would provide a Rs 1 lakh award to parents of four children, regardless of whether he remains a board member or not. “Manage somehow, but don’t lag in giving birth to children. Or else, heretics will capture this country,” he said. Following the statement, opposition leaders criticized his remarks, while the BJP distanced itself.
While this initiative may resonate with some, it also raises questions about the pressures placed on couples regarding family size and the implications for women’s health and well-being. As this policy unfolds, it will be interesting to see how it impacts family dynamics and societal attitudes toward parenting in Madhya Pradesh.
