Haryana: A shocking incident was recently reported from Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) in Sirsa where a student allegedly attempted suicide twice in a day over his female teacher’s remarks. The differently abled student first attempted suicide by cutting his wrist with a blade and later tried to jump off the 3rd-floor classroom of the university. Both times, he was saved by his fellow students, according to reports. Following the incident, the student was immediately rushed to the university’s dispensary for medical treatment.
His parents later arrived at the university to have a word with their son and reassure him. Reports revealed that the student had approached the CDLU administration to report the issue about two months ago. Post his complaint over the teacher’s remarks, the administration launched an inquiry into the matter. As a result, the teacher was temporarily suspended, meanwhile, the student demanded more strict action.
According to Law Department Chairman Prof Mukesh Garg, the student was earlier given counselling after he opened up about his suicide attempts. Prof Priyanka Siwach, leading the three-member inquiry committee formed by CDLU administration, informed that both the student and the teacher were called for personal hearing where the student made his points, however, the teacher didn’t present hers.
Siwach further stated that the woman teacher had also complained against the student to the Governor and the Women’s Commission. As per the latest update, the Governor had ordered a probe into the matter. The teacher had charged the student with alleged harassment and mental abuse.
