In a shocking incident, senior Haryana Police IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself dead at his residence in Chandigarh. The incident took place in Sector 11 of the city.
Senior police officials, including the IG of Police, rushed to the spot. The Chandigarh forensic team also reached the spot. Kumar was an IPS officer of the 2001 batch.
He was an officer of the ADGP rank and had recently been transferred to Sunaria Jail in Rohtak.
Kumar’s wife, A. P. Kumar, is also an IPS officer and has been on an official tour to Japan since October 5. She is expected to return to India by Wednesday evening.
As per reports, Kumar had raised questions over the promotion of four IPS officers, and he had written a letter to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini regarding the issue, calling it improper.
He had also levelled allegations of harassment against former DGP Manoj Yadav and had requested that a case be registered against the top cop.
