The stage is set for the vote counting of the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024, which will take place on Tuesday, October 8. The key parties in the race include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress party, as well as Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). According to exit poll predictions, the Congress is expected to regain power from the BJP, which has been in government for the last ten years.
Key Constituencies to Watch:
Garhi Sampla-Kiloi (Rohtak District)
This is one of the most closely watched seats, with former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda contesting from here. Hooda, a Congress heavyweight, is seen as a strong contender for the chief minister’s post if Congress wins. He is running against BJP’s Manju Hooda and AAP’s Pravin Guskhani. Hooda has won this seat in the 2009, 2014, and 2019 elections.
Ladwa (Kurukshetra District)
Ladwa is another crucial constituency as Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini (BJP) is contesting from here. He faces Congress’s Mewa Singh, who won the seat in 2019, and AAP’s Joga Singh. The seat has alternated between Congress (2019), BJP (2014), and INLD (2009).
Julana (Jind District)
This seat has garnered attention due to Congress’s candidate, Olympian wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat. She is up against BJP’s Captain Yogesh Bairagi and AAP’s WWE star Kavita Dalal. JJP’s Amarjeet Dhanda won this seat in 2019, while INLD won in 2009 and 2014.
Uchana Kalan (Jind District)
Former Deputy Chief Minister and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala is defending this seat. The JJP recently ended its alliance with the BJP. Dushyant faces Congress’s Brijendra Singh, AAP’s Pawan Fauji, and BJP’s Devender Attri. Dushyant won this seat in 2019, while the BJP and INLD won in 2014 and 2009, respectively.
Gurugram (Gurugram District)
A key seat near Delhi, Mohit Grover, a former independent candidate, is running for Congress this time. He faces BJP’s Mukesh Sharma and AAP’s Nishant Anand. BJP has held this seat in the last two elections, with Sudhir Singla winning in 2019 and Umesh Aggarwal in 2014.
These constituencies, along with others, will play a critical role in determining the next government in Haryana.
