Haridwar Stampede: Crowd Surge In Mansa Devi Temple Kills 6, Injures Several; PM Modi Expresses Grief

Uttarakhand: At least six people were dead and several were injured after a huge crowd gathered at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar told ANI that a detailed report of the incident is awaited. Meanwhile, the authorities have left for the spot. Visuals from the site showed the injured being rushed to the hospital to receive medical treatment.

SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal said, “We received reports of some people being injured, following which the police took immediate action. Around 35 people were brought to the hospital, and 6 have been confirmed dead. The rest are undergoing treatment… Prima facie, the stampede was triggered by a rumour of an electric shock on stairs 100 metres down the temple route. We are investigating further…”

Following the loss of lives in the Mansa Devi Temple stampede, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences. He said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede on the route to Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected.”

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed deep concern on the tragedy, stating, “Extremely distressing news has been received about a stampede breaking out at the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar. SDRF, local police, and other rescue teams have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the local administration regarding this matter, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to Mata Rani for the safety of all the devotees.” The CM has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for deceased families and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
