The construction of the Gwalior-Agra Expressway, a major infrastructure project, is progressing rapidly. The 88 km long, six-lane expressway aims to connect Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh with Agra in Uttar Pradesh, enhancing connectivity between the two states.
The project has received approvals for key components, including the construction of a hanging bridge over the Chambal River. Once completed, the expressway will significantly ease travel and transportation.
The project, which spans across 550 hectares of land, has already secured 95% of the compensation for land acquisition. Additionally, pre-construction activities are almost complete, with about 85% of the preliminary work finished.
How Many Trees To Be Cut:
One of the primary challenges faced by the project has been obtaining permission to cut around 755 trees in the Protected Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ). However, approval for the removal of a total of 4,000 trees has been granted. In compensation for this, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has committed to planting 1.24 lakh trees.
The expressway is part of a broader initiative to improve high-tech road infrastructure connecting Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Once completed, the Gwalior-Agra Greenfield Expressway will provide a more efficient and faster route, facilitating smoother traffic flow between the states. The new expressway will enhance trade, tourism, and industrial activities, benefiting the economies of both regions.
Budget:
The project is being funded with a budget of ₹4,613 crore. The expressway’s completion is expected to have a transformative impact on regional connectivity, further integrating the western UP region with Madhya Pradesh, and providing a state-of-the-art transportation corridor.
