A new 88 km long Greenfield Expressway will be built to connect Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh to Agra in Uttar Pradesh. For this, the process of land acquisition has been completed in Agra, Dholpur, and Morena. The construction work of this 88.4 km long expressway has been handed over to a company in Udaipur, which will start its work in November 2025. The project is likely to be completed by the year 2028, and the total cost will be around Rs 4612.65 crore.
This six-lane expressway will pass through four districts of Madhya Pradesh. For this, the land of 14 villages of UP, 18 of Rajasthan, and 30 villages of MP has been acquired. Apart from this, the construction company will also have to repair NH-44 connecting Gwalior to Agra.
With the construction of the expressway, the journey from Gwalior to Agra will take only one and a half hours instead of the three hours taken till now. People of areas like Dimni, Ambah, and Porsa will especially benefit, who currently take four hours to cover a distance of 130 km, whereas the new route can be covered in just 90 minutes.
Eight big and 23 small bridges, six flyovers, five elevated viaducts, one rail overbridge and 42 underpasses will be built on the Dholpur-Agra Expressway. The maximum speed limit here will be kept at 100 km per hour, and GPS GPS-based toll and traffic management system will also be installed.
This route will start from the outer ring road of Agra and pass through a total of 65 villages till the Gwalior bypass. It will pass through the Rajakheda area of Morena, 20 km away from Dholpur headquarters. The expressway will be fully access-controlled, and four to five loops will be made every 20–25 km for entry and exit in Morena, Dholpur, and Agra, out of which one loop will be on NH-552 of Morena and the other on Rajakheda Road of Dholpur.
