Born in Bahadur Nagari village in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district to a farmer named Nanne Lal and Katori Devi, the self-proclaimed guru’s real name is Suraj Pal. He had two brothers, one of whom has passed away, and he completed his early education in the village. Pal served as a head constable with the Local Intelligence Unit of the UP police. He claims to have started working for the Intelligence Bureau after college and developed an interest in spirituality during that period.

He left his police job in 1999 and subsequently changed his name to Narayan Saakar Hari.
One distinctive aspect of Narayan Hari as a guru is his choice of attire; he opts for a white suit and tie instead of saffron robes. He also favors wearing a kurta-pyjama. During his sermons, he claims that he does not keep any money from the donations he receives, using it all to support his devotees. His wife, Prem Bati, usually accompanies him.
At least 116 people lost their lives in a stampede during a ‘satsang’ held in Narayan Hari’s honor in Phulrai village, Hathras district, on Tuesday. Police stated that the venue was too small to accommodate the large crowd that had gathered. A committee has been established to investigate the incident, and a case will be filed against the organizers.
