Gujarat Police have arrested an alleged serial killer for the rape and murder of a girl committed on November 14 in Valsad district. The accused has been identified as 29-year-old, Rahul Singh Jat, a resident from Rohtak and a handicapped person. He has been charged with the rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl in Motiwada, as per police officials.

Police state that the accused used to travel openly in trains taking advantage of his illness and has been involved in murders across four states.

He was arrested after a 19-year-old girl’s body was found near the tracks close to the Udvada railway station on November 14. The girl was returning home from tuitions in the evening when she was attacked, raped and murdered, officials said. A forensic postmortem of the victim’s body confirmed rape and murder as the causes of the death.

How Was He Arrested?

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Valsad Police had immediately filed an FIR. A team of police checked nearby railway stations with the help of railway security personnel. Within 11 days, the police with the help of CCTV footage, backtracking and forward tracking had tracked a record to the accused and had been arrested by the Jodhpur Police for committing thefts and other crimes. However, he had been released from there on November 15 and had committed a total of five murders after his release.

Valsad Superintendent (SP) Karanraj Vaghela said that the accused was later found travelling in a train to Vapi, and was arrested.

What Did The Police Say?

SP Vaghela told ANI, “Upon checking the CCTV footages, we had found a person with a similar face and with the help of backtracking and forward tracking, he was found earlier arrested in the Jodhpur jail.”

He added, “Under Pardi Police Station area, on the evening of 14th November, a girl was brought to a hospital in suspicious condition. Forensic postmortem was conducted and according to the report, a case of rape and murder was filed. With the help of GRP and RPF of Vapi Railway Station, this suspect was seen in the CCTV footage and the clothes worn by the suspect were found at the scene of the crime. The accused was arrested and he has confessed his crime. The biggest success Valsad Police got was that during the complete interrogation of the accused, he confessed that he has also committed 4 other murders.”
