New Delhi: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which is an ally of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), is seeking a total of 4 seats in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly Polls. However, the Congress has offered the NCP to contest on 3 seats only.

Gujarat NCP President Jayant Boskey said, “We’re a part of the UPA; we’ve been contesting elections together in Maharashtra. Similarly, in Gujarat too we’ll (Congress-NCP) be contesting together. We’ve asked for 4 seats, Congress has agreed to 3 and talks are underway for another seat.”

In Maharashtra, the Congress and NCP, along with the Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, formed the Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA) to form the state government.

The MVA was formed after the 2019 state Assembly elections, ensuing a huge political drama. The three parties rose to power together in Maharashtra after defeating the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Devendra Fadnavis as the Chief Minister.

The Assembly polls in Gujarat are slated to take place in two phases: on December 1 and December 5.
