New Delhi: As many as 50,000 Dalit Hindus are expected to quit Hinduism to adopt Buddhism in Ahmedabad’s Gandhinagar on the ocassion of Ambedkar Jayanti.
The mass conversion will take place in a rally that is scheduled to be held in state capital on April 14, reported the Economic Times while quoting a member of the Swayam Sainik Dal (SSD), a Rajkot-based Dalit organisation.

The SSD is organistaion which is conducting the rally and its member has claimed that they have confirmation of about 50,000 people belonging to Dalit community who will be converting their religion.
Further, the SSD said they are expecting more than 1 crore people to attend the programme held on the birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar.

An Ahmedabad-based Dalit activist said the religious conversion is taking place as an attempt to escape caste-based discrimination as well as defiance.
