Guard Killed In Bengal Train Mishap After Swapping Duty For Daughter

At least 10 people were killed and 40 injured when the Sealdarh-bound Kanchanjunga Express collided with a goods train near New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal on Monday morning.

Many passengers who got off the train had trauma and relief written on their faces, but at the same time, there were painful stories of families who lost loved ones.

Railway guard Ashish Dey, who was working on the Kanchanjunga Express train at the time of the accident, was among the dead.

Ashish Dey was originally attached to the Shatabdi Express but changed his assignment to the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express to spend more time with his daughter on Father’s Day, his family said.

Ashish’s daughter is a college student and lives in Kolkata.

Dey spent Sunday with his wife and daughter at his residence celebrating Father’s Day. Little did he know it was the last time he would be with his family.

Dey left his home on a rainy Monday morning and started work from New Jalpaiguri station.

Ashish Dey rose from Siliguri to guard the Kanchanjunga Express. Within an hour and a half, the Kanchenjunga Express met with a horrific accident near Rangapan station where Ashish died on the spot.

Later, Ashish’s family got information about his death, and his body was also brought home.

As per the report Local councilor Tapas Chatterjee, “We are all shocked by his untimely death. He loved to sing at various neighborhood events. He had a good rapport with almost everyone and was always seen smiling. We just can’t believe it.”, that our Ashish is no more.”
