GST Bachat Utsav- As the revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates came into effect on Monday, September 22, the first day of the nine-day Navratri festival, there is a sense of enthusiasm among the people. Under the new tax structure, people will now have to pay only 5% and 18% GST. The new GST rates have been hailed as “GST Bachat Utsav” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who extended wishes to the countrymen on the occasion.
“This time, this auspicious occasion of Navratri is very special. Along with the GST Bachat Utsav, the mantra of Swadeshi is going to receive new energy during this period. Let us come together in collective efforts for the fulfilment of the resolve for a developed and self-reliant India,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Alok Kumar Shrivastav, a consumer from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh stated that the reduction of GST slabs will benefit poor and middle class. He added that prices of milk products and automobiles have reduced which is a good thing. “With the reduction of GST slabs, the poor and middle class will greatly benefit. Prices of all milk products have reduced... Automobiles will also be available at reduced prices. I thank PM Narendra Modi for this,” stated Shrivastav.
Another consumer, Narsingh Pathak hailed it as a good decision particularly for the automobile sector. He stated that people who wish to buy small cars will greatly benefit allowing them to save upto Rs 80000. “It is a very good decision. It is good for the automobile sector also. Those who had to pay upto Rs 1 lakh in tax to buy small cars, will greatly benefit as they will be able to save upto Rs 80000. People will be able to buy small cars. The price of motorcycles will also reduce by around Rs 35000... Diabetes and cancer medicines will also become cheaper,” Pathak told ANI.
In Delhi, Ravi Shankar Kumar called the GST reforms beneficial for middle-class families. “There are several benefits for middle-class families. Be it ghee, butter, milk or ice cream, the prices have gone down. We will have some benefits in terms of what we spend in a month on dairy products” he said.
A shopkeeper, Naved, a shopkeeper added, "It is a good step by the government. It should have been taken earlier. Better late than never. People will benefit... Prices of milk should be reduced.”

Meanwhile a farmer from Aligarh praised PM Modi, stating that the move has brought a great relief to farmers. “This has brought a great relief for the farmers. PM Modi did a great work,” he said. Another farmer explained how revised GST rates will benefit farmers in detail. He said, “This reform holds a great benefit for farmers, for example, a pump installation cost Rs 3-4 lakh, while there will be a difference of Rs 30-40 thousand this year. There will be a reduction of Rs 50 per DAP bag. The Prime Minister wants to increase the income of farmers and he is taking steps in this regard and working for the welfare of the farmers.”
