New Delhi: Amid the heavy rainfall in the Himalayan state Uttrakhand, residents of Ganganagar, an area situated near the spiritual city Rishikesh, on Monday informed that groundwater was coming out from the floors of their homes following torrential rainfall last week.
Similar incidents were also reported in the Raiwala area, a town located 40 km from the state capital Dehradun, where residents claimed that the walls and floors of their houses had developed cracks.
People claimed that It did not seem like rain or flood water but clear and clean water, probably groundwater, we have faced the issue for at least 3-4 hours.
As per officials, the groundwater level remains high generally in both areas due to their proximity to the Ganga River. Heavy rainfall in the region may have caused a sudden increase in water level.
However, Environmentalists have a different opinion of recent development. They pointed out that the natural course tributaries and rivers have been encroached on, which may be causing this kind of situation.
Earlier, in the wake of the incessant rainfall in Uttarakhand, fresh cracks emerged in Joshimath, instilling fear among the town’s residents. The precarious situation has escalated concerns as the state grapples with the ongoing downpours.
Fresh Cracks in Joshimath
According to information, the condition is particularly dire in Sunil village within Joshimath, where 16 families are facing significant risks. The emergence of these cracks raises the alarming prospect of a substantial landslide in the area.
