Greater Noida West: 6-Lane Underpass Work Speeds Up At Gaur Chowk, Traffic Diverted Temporarily

Traffic diversions have been implemented at Gaur Chowk in Greater Noida West due to the commencement of excavation work for a major six-lane underpass project.

Traffic police have imposed diversion at Gaur Chowk in view of excavation being done on the main carriageway of the Greater Noida West road for a six-lane underpass, officials said on Wednesday.

The road connects Bisrakh/Surajpur to Gaur Chowk. Greater Noida authority and traffic police have diverted the traffic towards the service roads.

According to the traffic police, traffic moving from Bisrakh towards Noida will be redirected to the service lane and then left on to the Parthala flyover. Commuters heading from A to the DME and Gaur City will have to turn left and take a U-turn, respectively. Those travelling from Noida to Ek Murti and vice-versa can manage as the roundabout is not closed.

“As the digging at the main intersection for underpass work has begun, a key section of the carriageway has now been blocked for construction, with traffic being diverted to service lanes,” said Greater Noida authority chief executive officer Ravi Kumar NG, stating that the diversions happening on the Taj Highway during the coming days need to be taken into account, of course.

Noida’s deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav mentioned the diversion near Surajpur will continue to be enforced for about two to three months.

“Then, after that we will put a diversion from Gaur Chowk to the Ghaziabad side as construction work proceeds. Additional traffic police forces are being used to deal with the congestion,” he added.

The underpass, which will be 700 metres long and run parallel to the 60-metre-wide roadway, is being built to provide direct connectivity from Greater Noida and Gaur City to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME), allowing vehicles to completely avoid Gaur Chowk.

350 metres will be on either side of the Chowk. The project is estimated at around ₹92 crore, and the time frame is around one-and-a-half years.

There has been high demand for a six-lane route in this area as traffic from Noida, Surajpur, and Crossings Republik, as well as the DME, often causes extreme congestion.
