Greater Noida Takes Green Leap: 11.5 Acres Leased To Reliance Bio Energy For Bio-CNG Plant To Tackle Wet Waste

To dispose of wet waste, the Greater Noida Authority has leased around 11.5 acres of land in Astoli to Reliance Bio Energy for setting up a bio-CNG plant.

Greater Noida: In a significant move towards making Greater Noida a cleaner city, the Authority has taken a major initiative. To dispose of wet waste, the Greater Noida Authority has leased around 11.5 acres of land in Astoli to Reliance Bio Energy for setting up a bio-CNG plant. Possession of the land has already been handed over. Reliance Bio Energy began construction of the plant on Friday.

11.5 Acres Of Land Leased For 25 years

Greater Noida Authority CEO NG Ravi Kumar issued an RFP (Request for Proposal) that sought daily wet waste processing capability of 300 tonnes while serving under his direction. The bidding round included Reliance Bio Energy as a participant. National Thermal Power Corporation offered Reliance Bio Energy the project through this RFP in September 2024 before signing the agreement in March 2025. The lease of 11.5 acres of Astoli village land to Reliance Energy spans a period of 25 years.

Authority To generate revenue

Srilakshmi VS of the Authority at ACEO mentioned that Reliance Bio Energy operates a facility to convert wet waste into bio-CNG fuel which functions as an automotive fuel alternative. Reliance BioEnergy will pay the Authority Rs 225 as a royalty for each ton of waste it processes.

Plant To Be Ready In 1.5 years

The Authority will not incur any expenses for processing 300 tonnes of waste daily. The plant is expected to be completed within a year and a half. CEO NG Ravi Kumar said that the bio-CNG plant will resolve the issue of wet waste disposal in Greater Noida, while also generating fuel and revenue for the Authority.
