A major accident took place on Wednesday in Nagla Hukum Singh village of Gautam Buddha Nagar, where a three-storey under-construction building suddenly collapsed. The structure came crashing down while workers were removing the slab, trapping more than 10 labourers under the debris.
So far, rescue teams have managed to save eight workers, all of whom have been taken to the hospital for treatment. They are said to be stable.
Locals claim that the building was being constructed by owner Gaurav, who wanted to expand the structure to get higher compensation for his land located close to the upcoming Noida International Airport.
NDRF leads massive rescue operation
The incident happened early in the morning, sending shockwaves through the village. Residents immediately called the police, who quickly informed district officials. Within minutes, teams from the NDRF and the fire department reached the spot and began a full-scale rescue operation.
Rescuers say more workers may still be trapped under the heavy concrete slabs. The collapsed structure is tightly packed, making it difficult to reach those buried inside.
To speed up the search, officials have deployed more than three JCB machines along with a dog squad to trace the exact location of the trapped workers. Despite non-stop efforts, the operation is proving tough due to the amount of debris and the narrow space available for rescue.
Families wait as rescue continues
Family members of the trapped labourers are waiting anxiously near the site, hoping for positive news. Authorities are trying their best to clear the debris carefully to avoid causing further harm.
The exact cause of the collapse is still not confirmed, but officials believe that poor construction practices may be responsible. A detailed investigation is expected once the rescue work is completed. The operation is still underway and more updates are awaited.
