To claim the Rs 50 lakh life insurance, a 26-year-old man allegedly killed his father in Greater Noida, police said, adding he concocted a fake murder story and even injured himself to avoid suspension.
The deceased, Prakash Bosak from Kishanganj, Bihar, had moved to Noida about 20 years ago and had a spice packing business, said police, adding he resided with his two children in a village in Sikandrabad.
“On the night of December 12, 2024, Prakash’s elder son, Santosh Bosak, alerted the police that an unidentified man killed his father by slitting his neck. Bosak said it occurred while he was returning from Delhi with his father,” said additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) (Greater Noida) Sudhir Kumar, as quoted by HT.
Following the murder, Santosh validated the insurance money and did not inform his family members. When police investigated, it was revealed that he lied to his family.
During interrogation, Bosak confessed that the family took a ₹12.5 lakh loan for a plot in Bulandshahr, 2022. The monthly EMI was ₹12,500. However, because of the financial crisis, it was difficult to organise the EMI. Bosak and his father took a ₹21 lakh loan to repay the first loan. They received ₹20.50 lakh with a monthly EMI of ₹21,000 and insured 60% of the money.
After repaying the first loan, they paid a monthly EMI of ₹21 lakh till the remaining funds were depleted. When Bosak felt the burden of the EMI again, he decided to kill his father and use his life insurance to pay off the loan.
HT reported the probe revealed that on December 12, Bosak was returning home with his father. He carried a knife and killed Prakash with it just as the latter alighted the vehicle to relieve himself. Later, Bosak also assaulted himself with the same knife. But forensic experts told police that it was probably a self-harm wound.
As Bosak’s mother is uneducated, Santosh took advantage and syphoned off the money. He was booked on charges of murder, and further investigation is underway.
