Airports across the globe are known for their sky-high prices for food, snacks, and beverages, leaving passengers frustrated and looking for alternatives. However, there is an airport in India offering tea for just Rs 10 and samosas for Rs 20. Yes, the Udan Yatri Cafe at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata is providing this facility.
Earlier in December 2024, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the cafe at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. This cafe offers a variety of items at reasonable prices, including samosas, the sweet of the day, tea, and coffee. The Ministry of Civil Aviation started the Udan Yatri Cafe to address the issue of overpriced food and beverages at airports.
What’s Special About This Cafe?
The Udan Yatri Cafe benefits flyers by offering affordable food and drink items. These kiosks, situated in the departure area, provide essential refreshments such as tea, coffee, snacks, and water at reasonable prices. With this cafe in place, passengers now have quality food options, addressing concerns over the high prices at airport eateries. The cafe has so far received positive feedback from passengers.
The cafe has been lauded by the passengers for its pocket-friendly services, high quality food, cheap rates of tea and coffee.
On completion of one month of Udan Yatri Cafe, Naidu wrote on X, “From the first day I took oath as the Minister of Civil Aviation, my aim has been to make air travel more affordable and accessible to every Indian. The Udaan Yatri Cafe at Kolkata Airport, India’s first affordable food outlet at an airport, is an important step in that direction. It has completed a month today. I was overwhelmed by the positive response from passengers on the occasion. This initiative reflects our commitment to making travel easier for every passenger.”
