The central government has officially declared the Patna-Purnia Expressway as a National Expressway, giving a significant step to Bihar’s road development plans. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has notified it as National Expressway-9 (NE-9). This will be the first expressway in Bihar to be built entirely within the state.
On this achievement, Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen thanked the central government and called it a proud moment for the state.
India TV quoted Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen as saying, “It is a matter of pride for Bihar to get the status of this project as National Expressway-9. The work has gained momentum since the announcement of the project and the state government will continue to cooperate with the Center in every possible way to complete it on time.”
After the expressway is operational, the distance from Patna to Purnia can be covered in just three hours, which will give a new dimension to the connectivity and development of the Seemanchal region. The minister described it as a way to give a new identity to the road network of Bihar and socio-economic progress in the eastern districts.
This 250 km long expressway will start from Mirnagar Arezi near Hajipur and go up to Hansdah in Purnia district, connecting several villages and towns. The project will include the construction of large bridges, railway overbridges, interchanges and underpasses, as well as link roads connecting the district headquarters of Samastipur, Saharsa and Madhepura.
The process of land acquisition is going on rapidly in more than 250 villages of six districts. Construction work will be started as soon as it is completed, which will prove to be a new chapter in the infrastructure development of Bihar.
