The Ministry of Road and Transport approved two expressways for Bihar in the coming days. The two expressways are Raxaul-Haldia Expressway and Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway. The route of these two expressways is finalised, and soon the alignment process will also be completed. Following the alignment, these expressways will benefit Bihar and three neighbouring states.
The expressway from Raxaul to Haldia is important as it will provide direct access from Bihar to the Port of Haldia in West Bengal for Nepalese trades. This is to be a six-lane highway of 719 km length. It will cover a significant number of districts in Bihar, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Patna, and Jamu.
This expressway is expected to bring about considerable economic development to the said areas. As soon as the route is official, the government will initiate the land acquisition process for the project, which would require an estimated budget of ₹60,000 crores.
The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway is another expressway that will improve connectivity in this region. The proposed route of this expressway has been submitted to the MoRTH committee. The expressway will connect from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, through East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, and Kishanganj in Bihar, to West Bengal. Districts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal will be tied up through this route.
Additionally, the government also approved the route for constructing a four-lane road from Mokama to Munger. Land will be acquired soon, which would greatly benefit the local people.
